Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before joining — and if we've missed something, just ask.
Getting started
Does my child need netball experience to join?
No. We welcome complete beginners. Our NetSetGO program is designed for children with no experience, and our graded teams mean players are matched with others at a similar level.
What age can my child start?
Children can start from age 5 in our NetSetGO program. Team competition begins from age 7 (SET teams), and we have teams through to Open age.
Is there a trial or taster session?
Yes. We hold try out days during each year, and you may be invited to attend a training session so we can find the right team for your child. Please contact us for more information of the next date.
How do I register?
Start by joining our waitlist via this link. We'll contact you when a spot becomes available or to invite you to tryouts. Seasons start in February (Autumn) and Term 3 (Spring) typically.
Costs and Fees
How much does it cost to play?
Fees vary by age group and program. NetSetGO is a one-off term fee, while team players pay a seasonal registration. We keep our fees as low as possible thanks to our sponsors and management structure model. Contact us for current pricing.
What's included in the registration fee?
Your fee includes Netball Victoria membership, insurance, competition entry, and weekly training. NetSetGO participants also receive a t-shirt, netball, and other items.
Are there payment plans available?
Contact us at admin@strathmorenetball.com.au to discuss your situation. Instalmant payments are possible through the Netball connect app. We're a community club and want netball to be accessible to all families.
What is the Get Active Kids Voucher?
It's a Victorian Government program that helps eligible families with the cost of sport registration. You can apply through the Service Victoria website and use it towards your fees. This program can end at any time so please make your own enquiries with Service Victoria to understand availability and rules.
Training and Games
Where do you train?
We train at Aberfeldie Primary School (Ramsay St, Aberfeldie) and Riverside Netball Courts (Ascot Vale).
Where are games played?
Games are played at State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville (10 Brens Drive, Parkville) or Riverside in Ascot Vale (75 Newsom St, Ascot Vale).
What days and times are training and games?
Training is on Mondays or Wednesdays between 4:30pm and 7:00pm, depending on age group. Games are on Saturdays (U13 and under), Thursday evenings (U15), or Tuesday evenings (U17 and Open).
What happens if my child misses training?
Life happens — just let your coach or team manager know. Regular attendance helps your child develop skills and bond with teammates, but occasional absences are understood.
Uniforms and Equipment
What uniform is required?
All players from SET to Open teams need three items: the club game attire, a hooded top (with your child's name), and a short-sleeve warm-up top. NetSetGO participants receive a program t-shirt instead.
Where do I buy the uniform?
Uniforms are ordered through our current partner UR4SPORT. You can have items delivered or picked up. They are located at 144 Ascot Vale road, Flemington.
What should my child wear to training?
Comfortable sports clothing and supportive shoes with good grip. If you need specific footwear information, we encourage you to contact a podiatrist. Within our fees, players receive a training top which must be worn for training.
Safety and Wellbeing
Are your coaches qualified?
Yes. Our coaches complete Netball Victoria accredited courses and hold current Working With Children Checks. We also have a highly accredited Head Coach who supports coach development across the club.
Do you have a safeguarding policy?
Yes. We align Netball Victoria's codes of conduct and child safety policies. Our club is committed to providing a safe environment for all players.
What if my child gets injured?
Whilst Netball is a non contact sport, injuries can happen. Your Netball Victoria membership includes insurance coverage. Our coaches have first aid knowledge, and we follow proper incident reporting procedures. We'll always take any injury seriously if anything happens.
For Teens and younger players
I've never played netball before — is that okay?
Absolutely. We have teams across all age groups and skills so everyone is welcome. You’ll be placed in a team that suits your experience level and can learn and develop as you play.
Can I play with my friends?
We are a graded club, so teams are formed based on skill rather than friendship groups. This helps ensure everyone is challenged and supported at the right level. If you and your friends are assessed at a similar level, there may be an opportunity to be placed together.
How competitive is it?
It depends on the division. Higher divisions are more competitive, while lower divisions focus on fun, participation, and skill development. No matter the level, our club is about enjoying netball, improving your skills, and being part of a supportive team, not winning at all costs.
